These settings were written in 2008 for use at our parish church, and exist in versions for 4 parts, 3 parts and unison with accompaniment.
The antiphons can be used in a number of different ways.
They can be sung on their own at communion.
They can also be paired with a Psalm, using a psalm tone in the same key as the antiphon. In this case, the antiphon can be used at the beginning and end of the psalm, or alternatively as a chorus between verses.
A possible Psalm or other scripture text is suggested for each antiphon – these suggestions are taken from the ‘Antiphonary’, which has been compiled from the 2010 Roman Missal by ICEL (the International Commision on English in the Liturgy), and is available to download from the Liturgy Office of England and Wales website.
Further suggestions are available in the ‘Processional’, compiled by the Society of Saint Gregory, and also availble on the Liturgy Office website.
The melody is the same for each week of the season in order to allow for ease of congregational involvement. The texts were adapted to fit the meter of the melody by my wife, Gail.
